Diamond Platnumz’ father, Abdul Juma, has once again made a desperate plea to the singer to rescue him as he is in a critical condition.

The embattled Mr Juma has for the longest time now been begging the Bongo star for help to get treatment and improve his living conditions. According to Juma, even though his son is ranked as one of the richest Tanzanian celebs, he(Juma) continues to live a miserable life.

“When I started doing interviews, I thought I’d change my son’s stand, who is said to be one of the richest in Tanzania,” Juma told Tanzania’s Mwananchi.

“Even though I have a famous son in and out of the country, my life is just like this. I live in a simple house that I believe if ever Diamond gets stuck in life, he will come to live here because this is his home. I ask myself: What wrong have I ever done?”

Mr Juma added that the last he spoke with Diamond was when the artiste was still dating former beauty queen Wema Sepetu.

“They used to come together to greet me,” he said.

Diamond’s father said he has been having difficulty walking.

“Life now is not good. I have a leg problem. Sometimes, I can’t walk a long distance. My leg pains and sometimes, I can’t even get out of bed,” he said.

The latest plea comes days after Juma told another publication that he hopes Diamond will invite him to his wedding.

“Namuomba sana asiache kunialika, asiponialika nitaona amenidharau sana, nitajisikia vibaya”

(I urge him[Diamond] not to ignore me on his wedding day, if he does not invite me I will feel despised)

Abdul further disclosed that Diamond did not inform about the wedding as he learnt about from the village grapevine.

“Sijaambiwa habari za ndoa ila nasikia tu watu mitaani wanazungumzia suala hilo, kikubwa naomba iwe ya heri Mungu afanikishe nitafurahi sana mwanangu akioa

(I have not been informed about it but I’ve heard people talking about it in the streets. But I pray that God makes it successful. I will be happy if my son marries)

Diamond has never come around to forgiving his biological father whom he accused of abandoning his family when the singer was still young.

No sooner had Diamond Platnumz made a grand entry in his beau Tanasha Donna’s social media life than he was quickly deleted.

Over the weekend, the Kenyan radio presenter and the Bongo star lit up Instagram as they shared snaps of their romantic getaway in Mwanza. This was seen by some as the final confirmation that the two are indeed an item and are ready for the sh*tstorm that comes with public displays of affection.

However, barely a day after showing off how madly in love they are with each other, the lovebirds have taken a U-turn after seemingly attracting negative vibes from the masses.

Taking to Insta, Tanasha has announced that they are taking a social media hiatus to focus on more important things. According to Tanasha, the decision was reached through a mutual agreement with Diamond that it was too soon to be in the public space.

This will go on until further notice.

“Just to make things clear… D and I came to a mutual understanding that it may be too soon to be public with our relationship on social media right now. So we decided to keep our relationship private for the moment until we feel like going public again,” Tanasha said.

The two lovebirds have since deleted pictures of each other from their respective accounts.

DJ Adrian Speaks on DJ Pinye’s Comment about Mediocre Kenyan Music

The veteran Kenyan disc jockey – DJ Adrian – has added his voice to the debate on mediocre local music as alleged by DJ Pinye.

According to Adrian, a long-serving deejay at Capital FM, DJ Pinye was instrumental in the success of several Kenyan artistes such as Gidi Gidi and Maji Maji.

“I know for a fact that Pinye was an important part of various artists’ careers back then and I feel that if you could just talk to them then you could get the real story. He even went on tours with most of them,” said Adrian.

Adrian, who is set to play at the second annual Diani Beach Festival on New Year’s Eve, further stated that they – as deejays – played and continue to play a pivotal role in the local music industry and that their efforts should not be downplayed.

“Personally, I was the first Kenyan deejay to tour the United States back then, and all I did was play Kenyan music during my shows; which got us much needed recognition out there and developed our industry,” added DJ Adrian.

DJ Pinye caused a social media storm a couple of weeks ago after he confessed that he never played some Kenyan musicians songs on his ‘The Beat’ show because their content was mediocre.

DNA, one of the artistes mentioned by DJ Pinye alongside Khaligraph Jones, even went ahead to drop a diss track dubbed ‘Kapinye’ but it was deemed medicore.

Ruth Matete: I was Wrong to Participate in TPF as a Christian

Tusker Project Fame 5 winner Ruth Matete has expressed regret for participating in the music talent search show that was sponsored by an alcohol brand.

According to Matete, who is now a worship leader at House of Grace church, she wronged God because she was still saved when she got into the show.

The singer made the revelation during an interview with Massawe on Radio Jambo last week. She said: “Around that time, I was so stressed and I had financial difficulties.”

“It was not a good gesture as a Christian. Even then, I knew I was wrong, but because in life we have ups and downs, no one should lie to you that after salvation everything is fine. I had moved out of my father’s house, although I was still in school. It was not easy and my dad is a very strict dad, who would only give me a small amount of money, unlike what I expected,” Matete continued.

She further opened about how she lost her friends.

“I had lost friends. When I love, I love hard, and so I disagreed with my girlfriends, who I expected so much from but were not there for me,” she said.

“At that time, one of my friends advised me to try Tusker Project Fame. I hesitated but finally ended up going because of the frustrations of life, without even thinking about my salvation life.”

Matete went on to win the show and a cash prize of Sh5 million. She said she was mocked for giving a tenth of the prize money to the church as tithe.

“After TPF, there were so many gigs for me. Most people did not know I was saved. When I went back to church, there was a lot of drama, but I admitted I was wrong,” she said.

Kenya’s ‘First Lady of Hip-hop’ Nazizi Hirji says the most painful moment of her life was when she received news that her brother had passed.

Nazizi lost her brother, Ferouz Hirji, in 2006 in an accident that dealt a big blow to CMB (Cash Money Brothers), a group he had formed with Prezzo.

This past Sunday, December 16, marked 12 years since Feroz died, and the memory of the day Nazizi received the heartbreaking news is still fresh in the singer’s mind and heart.

“It’s now 12 years since he died. He was such a big support system in my music,” Nazizi says.

“I was on tour with Wyre and was in the car coming from Holland to Germany. That phone call was the most painful thing I had to go through in my life.”

Nazizi also paid a touching tribute to her late brother on Instagram, describing the day Feroz died as one of the worst days of her life.

“16.12.06 still remains one of the worst days of my life … I don’t know how I have made it 12 yrs without you. I love you sooooo much and I miss the strength you gave me. R.I.P my brother till we meet again. R.I.P gates#sad #alone.”

Prezzo was also not left behind as he paid tribute to the departed members of the CMB crew.

“12 years & it’s still hard to come to terms but I know ur in a better place CMB VP Firoz & CMB Oscar Gates, till I join u fam….CMB has never been the same since ur demise. RIP my brothers.”

Naz, who is currently riding high with a hit titled, Heart Of Stone, will be featuring on Coke studio 2019.

“The impact Coke Studio is bringing is making things possible by bringing artistes from different places and giving us a platform to perform, and that’s a big deal for me. I’ve learnt that there is still gonna be room for improvement, even though I’ve been in the industry for 20 years,” she said.

Kenyan singer Vivian and her fiance Sam West are set to have a white wedding soon.

This is according to the ‘Chum Chum’ singer who spoke during an interview with Massawe at Radio Jambo.

“We are still making wedding arrangements and we will wed very soon,” said Vivian.

The ‘Woman in Love’ hitmaker also explained why it is easier to be with Sam West, who doubles up as her manager.

“It’s easier to be with him because our business is a lifestyle -with all the traveling and the exposure- and therefore you need someone close to you every time.

“It can be destabilizing without a solid partner so it’s easier to date someone you work with,” said Vivian.

The singer also admitted that she is not sure about having a baby with Sam West at the moment.

“I don’t know if I want to get babies but if they come, it is okay with me. Although it is not right to put pressure on getting a baby,” she said.

“You have to have embraced the decision of getting kids. When babies come, they come with a lot of responsibility, which every woman has to be ready to adapt to.”

Last Mother’s Day, Vivian took many people by surprise when she unveiled her daughter, 9.

She said in the interview that she got the girl at a young age and that her baby daddy is not a deadbeat.

On the most embarrassing moment on stage, Vivian said: “I once had my zipper torn while performing and had to stop my performance and stood still. Sam came on stage and made it for me, a great challenge of managing female artiste. It was the most embarrassing thing on stage.”

Diamond in Kenya for Shows, Organizers Say

Bongo star Diamond Platnumz is in Kenya for his planned shows across the country, concert organizers have said.

The organisers of the first concert to be headlined by Diamond Platnumz at Moi Stadium in Embu on December 24 say the show will proceed as planned, even after Tanzania’s arts regulator, BASATA, dared the banned artiste to defy its order.

The Authority announced on Tuesday that the singer and his compatriot, Rayvanny, are prohibited from performing within and outside their native Tanzania following their attitude of disdain toward the agency.

This after they performed the outlawed “Mwanza” song during the recent Wasafi Festival in Tanzania.

Diamond is scheduled to perform in Embu on December 24, Mombasa on December 26 and Nairobi on December 31.

“As I am speaking to you now, the singer [Diamond] is already in Kenya. He arrived on Wednesday. Our Embu show, according to him and his management, will go on as planned. On our side, we haven’t bailed out on the agreement,” said the organiser, who is a famous politician in Embu.

Diamond’s manager, Babu Tale, has also allayed fears that the musician could snub the concert following BASATA’s warning.

“The concerts will go on as planned. To be specific, all of them,” Mr Tale said.

When asked how his team will deal with the BASATA directive, Tale said, “That is our task. We will reach out to them and see how we can meet half-way. Meanwhile, we’ll handle the consequences when we get there. Let us meet on December 24.”

What Ezekiel Mutua said about Diamond’s Ban by Tanzania Govt

$

Kenya’s ‘moral cop’ Ezekiel Mutua has surprisingly taken a hands-off approach to the ban imposed on Diamond Platnumz by Tanzania’s regulatory body Baraza la Sanaa la Taifa (BASATA).

According to the Kenya Film Classification Board CEO, Diamond is free to perform in Kenya as the country is not bound by Tanzanian laws.

Speaking to Pilipili FM, Mutua said that he cannot stop or arrest the Wasafi CEO based on the neighbouring country’s ‘morality’ laws but noted that the singer is subject to Kenyan laws once he is in the country.

”We are Kenyans, we are not Tanzanians but they have been banned to perform outside Tanzania so it is purely their decision. Have seen the board has written their statement, they have banned them from performing even outside Tanzania.

“Their statement says they will jail them for life if they fail to follow the order. I don’t think I have anything to say, we are not Tanzanians and they’ve been banned by the Tanzanian government, if they perform it’s their own business, I cannot arrest them because they have been banned in Tanzania, I can only arrest them within the laws of Kenya.

“There is no issue, it is not me it is them but if they come here and commit a crime in the event, we will deal with them with Kenyan law. It is not really our decision, we have nothing to do with it, whether they come or not, we are not involved in any way and cannot stop them from coming because of Tanzania. We can only ban them because of our laws here,” said Mutua.

Hakuna Matata™: Kenyan Band ‘Them Mushrooms’ Speak Up

$

Kenyan band ‘Them Mushrooms’ have added their voice to the worldwide debate on Walt Disney Company “owning” popular Swahili phrase “Hakuna Matata”.

An online petition urging Disney to drop its trademark on the phrase has since attracted more than 120,000 signatures. The petition states that the phrase has long been used by Swahili speakers in several African countries such as Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and more, so Disney “can’t be allowed to trademark something that it didn’t invent.”

In the center of it all is the Kenyan band – Them Mushrooms – who were the first to feature “hakuna matata” in their popular song “Jambo Bwana (Hello Mister)” back in 1982.

The Band believes that there is a probable infringement in the trademark and have called out Disney.

In a statement, a member of Mushrooms said: “We believe that there is a probable infringement on copyright in regards to the phrase ‘Hakuna Matata’, which forms the chorus to our song ‘Kenya Hakuna Matata’ a.k.a. ‘Jambo Bwana’ or simply ‘Hakuna Matata’.”

Adding: “We feel that this whole matter needs to be handled by an IP lawyer who is an expert in copyright law.”

Disney originally applied to trademark “hakuna matata” for use on merchandise in 1994, the same year it released the original “Lion King.” It was eventually granted the trademark in 2003.

Trademark experts claim the issue had been blown out of proportion by confusion over intellectual property rights and what the trademark actually entails.

The trademark does not mean that the company owns the phrase, or that it can ban anyone from using it.

According to the New York Times, Disney filed the trademark upon the release of the original movie for clothing or footwear it sells in the United States, as a way to protect itself against other companies that might try to exploit the Disney brand.

“Disney’s registration for ‘Hakuna Matata,’ which was filed in 1994, has never and will not prevent individuals from using the phrase,” a press officer for the company said.

Tanzania’s renowned talent manager Joel Vincent Joseph, popularly known as Mr Puaz, has resigned as manager of WCB Wasafin artiste Harmonize.

Mr Puaz, who is credited with engineering Harmonize’s rise to fame and fortune, has confirmed falling out with the Bongo star citing work-related misunderstandings. He denied that they parted ways after failing to agree on new contract terms as reported by a section of Tanzanian media.

Pressed for more details, Mr Puaz explained that he could no longer work with Harmonize due to his ‘bad attitude and arrogance’ that developed after his recent success.

Mr Puaz, who was conspicuously missing during the Wasafi Festival held last Monday at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi, added that he is still open to working with the Diamond Platnumz owned record label.

Ikitoke opportunity, tutakaa mezani tuweke mambo sawa kisha tufanye kazi” added Mr. Puaz.

Before joining WCB, Mr Puaz managed Tanzanian artist, Shetta.

Away from Talent management, Joel has a passion for writing and has been featured in some of the big media publications like Thrive Global where he writes things related to Career Management and Music Business.

Akothee Rallies Kenyan Celebs to Raise School Fees for Needy KCPE Top Performers

Kenyan musician Akothee is looking to have a year of positive vibes only. To this end, the singer has turned to philanthropy and helping the less fortunate in the society.

Akothee’s first noble cause of the year has seen her call on Kenyan celebrities and wellwishers to raise school fees for three needy pupils who performed well in last year’s KCPE but were unsure of joining secondary school.

The plight of two of the pupils-  Gabriel Miseda Ogweno and Julius Taiko – was highlighted by the Daily Nation newspaper on Tuesday.

14-year-old Gabriel Miseda Ogweno, who was allowed to write the examinations despite having a fee balance of Sh27,050, scored 440 marks and is supposed to join Maranda High School.

“My parents are casual workers too poor to take me to a national school. My fear is that I could land in a poorly facilitated day school in the neighbourhood, meaning I would have to work extremely hard,” Mr Ogweno said during the interview at their home on Sunday.

While Julius Taiko, 16, was abandoned by his mother at a tender age but a good Samaritan stepped in. He attended Imbaruetin Community Complex Primary School in little-known Namelok village in Kajiado South and scored 372 marks.

“He beat the odds with his exemplary performance despite attending a little-known public school,” said his foster mother Peninah Paiko.

“We appeal to well-wishers to support the boy. I have taken care of him since he was young, when I found him abandoned by the road.”

Moved by their plight, Akothee took to social media to rally Kenyan celebrities to come to the students’ rescue.

“Lets all hold on holidays & fun , I would like to be part of this 2 students tag all celebrities and well wishers. My hands are already full with school fee this year, but let’s do this family, tag all the Kenyan celebs here. We needchange, hii haitushindi, mpaka gospel artists lets goo, sisi tulishindwa kusoma wacha wengine walio na akili watu somee,” wrote Akothee.

In a subsequent post, Akothee revealed that well-wishers had managed to raise enough money for three students.

“Just by one post we have educated 2 boys &1 girl up to form four. The Muranga girl I will personally take her and register her in the school of her choice.”

Akothee named media personality Janet Mbugua and TV producer/ Music Video Director J Blessing as some of the Kenyan celebrities who have joined her cause.

Otile Brown Flaunts ‘Fake’ Mercedes Benz E63 AMG – PHOTOS

“Music pays.” Those are the words of high-flying Kenyan musician Otile Brown following his latest multi-million acquisition.

With ‘Njaanuary’ already biting some of us hard, Otile Brown, who only a few months ago was the butt of jokes on social media for borrowing money from ex-boo Vera Sidika to buy a car, has supposedly splashed millions on another Mercedes Benz.

The ‘Chaguo la Moyo’ hitmaker alleges to be the proud owner of a swanky Benz E63 AMG. But a keen and closer look shows the ride is, in fact, a 2011 Benz E250 that has been given a major facelift.

I’m not exactly a car expert but it’s too early in 2019 to be fooled by this clown and his shenanigans. While the ride’s exteri0r may have fooled many of Otile’s fans on Instagram to believe it is an AMG, it’s interior is a dead giveaway.

We are inclined to believe that the ride is the Benz that Otile Brown bought two months ago and had it wrapped with an AMG body kit. However, Otile Brown was more than elated to show off the “new AMG” that he said is an early birthday gift.

“Another one 🙏 Everything is possible Fam. Thank you Lord ..Couldn’t wait for my birthday which is in 2 months time..had to gift my self with a new AMG .work hard , pray, stay humble and always know your worth 💯. New year Blessings. Am coming,” Otile Brown captioned a clip showing off the ride.

Check out the ride below. Faking it till you make it is the mantra I suppose.

Maua Sama: Meet Fast-Rising Tanzanian Songbird

Maua Sama is without a doubt one of the fast-rising musicians in the East African region.

The Tanzanian songbird has been riding high with the hit song “Iokote” and was in the country late last year to promote it.

Maua Sama talks about her musical journey and the highs and lows she has experienced in the highly-competitive industry.

How did you start your journey in the music industry and how is so far?

I started to sing about five years ago all thanks to Mwana FA. Mwana FA introduced me to the industry, he was the one who found me, he heard a couple of songs that I did back then and I think he liked my voice then he called me and at first I thought he was a douche bag or some sought of liar.

He bought me a ticket to Dar es Salaam. I went to the city and we did a song together and after two weeks the song had gone viral. So far the journey has been good, I cannot complain.

How can you rate your success?

My current success is as a result of God’s will. Some people would easily say I am successful because of witchcraft. No, that is not true. I have always worked hard, and I would say God’s timing is manifesting itself on the break-through I am having in the music industry today. God’s approval is the most important.

Were you scared of joining the industry?

To tell you the truth, I didn’t know anything back then. I didn’t know a lot of things about music. I was this little girl who knew how to sing and loved to sing that’s all. My parents didn’t want me to do music, they wanted me to first finish studies and then go back to singing. I was having so much pressure, but I finished school and then afterwards I graduated. I learned the industry and how to do this thing and I was already into it completely. I learnt a lot and here I am.

Is your hit “Iokote”, about your life?

This song has surprised me. First I didn’t believe in the song because it was my first time doing that kind of genre. Most of my songs have a low tempo but this one was different. It is not about my life. It is a song that makes me feel so emotional the way people have received it, I’m proud of myself.

How does it feel to know that you have fans in Kenya?

I feel all beautiful. It feels nice because it is my first time to do a song which has been received so well across the region. For me it is a great success and Kenya is like my second home. I feel blessed and honoured to be here and I feel so good.

Is it difficult to be in the industry with all this stringent rules?

To some extent I support the rules. Some people think by imitating the way Americans do their music videos with nude women will make them famous.

That is not our culture. You can do good songs and dress appropriately and still have hits. I dress decently but people are liking my music still.

Do you think artistes should use their music to point out the wrongs in government?

I do and as a musician we have to deliver messages to different people in every way we can and as an artist I would love to do that.

You were recently arrested after you shared videos on social media, while dancing and stepping on money, how is the case going?

Yes, Soudy Brown and I were arrested in September and charged with destroying and lowering the dignity of the Tanzanian currency. The case is still on going. To tell you the truth I was doing a promotion about the song on social media and fans were sending me clips to share.

What have you learned from it?

I learned a lot both negative and positive. The positive side is that I have learned to perceive life in a different way than the way I used to. At the same time I learned that anything can happen at any time. It came as a surprise because I believe I’m clean in every way and that day I was arrested and went to jail.
